MIL-PRF-40136K
lowered to -50 °F. When this temperature is reached and the unit temperature has stabilized,
maintain the temperature for four hours. At the end of the four hours, the chamber temperature
shall be raised, at a rate not to exceed 6 °F per minute, to -25 °F. At this temperature, the pump
unit shall be placed in operation for 30 minutes. The test shall continue by raising the chamber
temperature at a rate not to exceed 6 °F per minute to 160 °F, stabilize the temperature for four
hours, at a rate of 6 °F per minute lower the temperature to 140 °F. At this temperature, place
the unit in operation for 30 minutes. Permanent deformation or damage to components of the
unit or failure to operate as prescribed herein shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.8 Support and ownership requirements.
4.5.8.1 Maintenance ratio. The unit shall be operated as specified herein for a minimum of
100 hours. Operating data accumulated during previous testing shall be included in data for
reliability calculations. A calculated maintenance ratio (see 6.6.1) greater than 0.08 shall
constitute failure of this test.
4.5.8.2 Reliability. The unit shall be operated as specified herein for a minimum of 100 hours.
Operating time accumulated during previous testing shall be included in data for reliability
calculations. A calculated MTBF (see 6.6.2) less than 114 hours shall constitute failure of this
test.
4.5.9 Safety. As part of the functional test all aspects of operation shall be evaluated for
safety of personnel and protection of equipment. Evaluation shall include, but is not limited to,
the requirements specified in 3.7.4. All observed unsafe conditions that result from design,
construction, or operation shall be noted. Any observed infringement shall constitute failure of
this test.
4.5.9.1 Continuity. The ground wire on the pump unit and each nozzle bonding wire shall be
connected to an ohmmeter to determine continuity. An ohmmeter reading greater than 10 ohms
shall constitute failure of this test.
5. PACKAGING
5.1 Packaging. For acquisition purposes, the packaging requirements shall be as specified in
the contract or order (see 6.2). When actual packaging of materiel is to be performed by DoD
personnel, these personnel need to contact the responsible packaging activity to ascertain requisite
packaging requirements. Packaging requirements are maintained by the Inventory Control Point's
packaging activity within the Military Department or Defense Agency, or within the Military
Department's System Command. Packaging data retrieval is available from the managing Military
Department's or Defense Agency's automated packaging files, CD-ROM products, or by
contacting the responsible packaging activity.
